Rosenergoatom has enough personnel to fill all positions at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), but now there is no need for this. This was announced on January 21 in an interview with RIA Novosti by the adviser to the general director of the concern Renat Karchaa.
He noted that the most important thing is to ensure nuclear safety. As soon as a situation “untolerable from the point of view of nuclear safety standards and requirements” arises, the necessary measures will be immediately taken and all “personnel gaps” will be promptly filled.
“All employees involved in nuclear safety must be contracted by the new employer represented by the ZNPP operating organization. We have a sufficient personnel reserve to fill all positions at the nuclear power plant,” Karchaa said.
Speaking about whether employees from other nuclear power plants of the Russian Federation will be invited to ZNPP, he noted that now there is no such need. However, Russian specialists provide advisory assistance.
“They participate in restoration work, accompany a number of technological processes, but as involved specialists,” explained the general director of Rosenergoatom.
Earlier in the day, Karchaa said that Ukraine had stepped up efforts to recruit ZNPP staff over the phone who had signed a contract with the operating company. At the same time, he noted that the employees do not succumb to the provocations of the Kyiv authorities, despite the fact that the Ukrainian side continues to threaten them and their families.
The day before, Karchaa also said that the Ukrainian authorities are financing sabotage at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, as well as intimidating plant employees and their families. According to him, all this creates threats to nuclear security.
On the same day, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that the negotiation process to create a security zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP was very difficult, and the plant continued to face dangers.
Zaporozhye NPP is the largest NPP in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. The object came under the control of Russia following the results of the referendum on the reunification of the Zaporozhye region with the Russian Federation. The power plant has been under the supervision of IAEA staff since early September. The mission of the organization arrived at the Zaporizhia NPP after shelling of the territory of the plant by Ukrainian troops.
