Colombo: Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka said that India continues to help Sri Lanka which is facing economic crisis.
Following the news that India will no longer provide financial assistance to Sri Lanka, the Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka has clarified this. In a statement issued by the Indian Embassy spokesperson, it has been mentioned that: We have seen the news that India will no longer provide financial assistance to Sri Lanka. We want to answer that.
We would like to mention that India has provided assistance to the tune of US$ 4 billion (roughly Rs. 3,189 crores in Indian value) this year which is unprecedented in view of the difficulties faced by the people of Sri Lanka.
Apart from that, India is also supporting Sri Lanka to get credit through bilateral and multilateral agreements. We would also like to point out that an agreement has been reached between the International Monetary Fund and the Government of Sri Lanka at the official level.
India is helping Sri Lanka in every way for its economic recovery. In particular, India is encouraging long-term investments in key economic sectors considering Sri Lanka’s economic growth. Apart from these, India is carrying out projects for bilateral development in Sri Lanka. The total value of these is USD 3.5 billion.
Sri Lankan students are receiving higher education and skill development training in India’s premier institutions of higher education. India is taking such steps because of its close and longstanding cooperation with Sri Lanka. Through this, it is reported that India is helping Sri Lanka to face the economic crisis.
