New Delhi: How much money has been allocated to Tamil Nadu from Nirbhaya fund? DMK MP Kanimozhi questioned in the Lok Sabha today. Union Minister Smriti Irani replied that Rs.9228.50 crore has been allocated for a total of 38 projects.

It is currently under consideration by the High Level Finance Committee. There are some practical hurdles in implementing these schemes. Some of the above 38 schemes are implemented directly by central government ministries and their departments.

Most of these schemes are implemented by state and union territory government administrations. Funds were sought for 15 projects from the administrative departments of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

These are Emergency Response Support System, One Stop Centre, Women’s Helpline, Compensation Fund for Victims, Prevention of Cyber Crimes against Women-Child, Establishment and strengthening of anti-trafficking centres, establishment of women’s help centers in police stations, establishment of fast track courts, establishment of vehicle monitoring platform, Deployment and Management, Safe City Project, Strengthening of DNA Analysis, Cyber Forensics and Related Facilities, Forensic Labs.

Tamil Nadu has been allocated Rs 314.28 crore from the Nirbhaya Fund from the financial year 2017-18 to the financial year 2021-22 based on the proposals received from the Ministries and Implementing Departments of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

It is the Empowered Committee constituted on the utilization of the Nirbhaya Fund that evaluates and recommends schemes for allocation of funds from this fund. Also after allocation of funds periodically reviews the operational status of the projects within specified time frames.

This committee reviews and monitors the progress of project work under Nirbhaya Fund in collaboration with concerned Ministries and implementing agencies. Through this, projects are quickly documented and executed,” replied the minister.
