The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today, Wednesday, that Beijing had informed Moscow of its vision for a “political settlement” of the conflict in Ukraine, after the visit of the chief Chinese diplomat, Wang Yi, to Moscow, but confirmed that it had not discussed with the latter a peace plan for Kiev.
“The Chinese partners shared their views on the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, as well as their approaches to its political settlement,” the ministry said in a statement.
But she indicated that “there was no talk about any specific peace plan.”
Russian welcome
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had earlier expressed Moscow’s welcome to Beijing’s desire to play a positive role in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
“We welcome China’s willingness to play a positive role in settling the Ukrainian crisis, but we clearly see that today’s Kiev regime is not ready to take action independently,” she said on Wednesday, after the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Wang Yi. He cannot bear his burdens and is not an independent player in the international arena.”
Zakharova also stressed the “clear confirmation” of Ukraine’s withdrawal from the negotiation process at the request of its curators.

no plan
However, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Lavrov did not discuss with China a plan for a settlement over Ukraine.
Zakharova said in a comment: “We have noticed the statements of some Western politicians and media reports about a ‘Chinese peace plan’. They, as usual, distort the real picture. Discussion of the situation in Ukraine occupied an important place in the context of Lavrov’s and Wang Yi’s talks. We shared their views with the Chinese partners on the reasons.” The root cause of the Ukrainian crisis, as well as the approaches to its political settlement.
This came in light of the talk about a Chinese peace plan for Ukraine that is supposed to be revealed this week, as cooperation between Beijing and Moscow is of great importance to achieving stability in the international arena.
