The Russian military has successfully used Penicillin artillery reconnaissance systems in the battles in Ukraine, the installation has confirmed its effectiveness, in particular, in the fight against NATO artillery. This was reported on October 15 by the RIA Novosti agency, citing a source.
“Several 1B76 Penicillin artillery reconnaissance systems have been tested in combat conditions in Ukraine. The complexes have demonstrated high efficiency in the framework of counter-battery combat with the artillery of the Ukrainian troops, including with the Ukrainian military artillery systems used by NATO countries,” the agency’s interlocutor noted.
1B76 “Penicillin” – a complex developed by the Rostec Corporation, its tests were completed in 2018, it was put into service two years later.
The complex works effectively at any time of the day at temperatures from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius, designed for reconnaissance of firing positions of cannon and rocket artillery, as well as anti-aircraft and tactical missiles.
Earlier, on October 12, Izvestia war correspondent Alexander Safiulin showed the combat work of artillerymen in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The military struck from anti-tank guns MT-12 “Rapier”.
According to experienced fighters, the battles with the Armed Forces of Ukraine have now become more active. The Ukrainian military, for its part, uses the American M777 and HIMARS.
On the same day, the press service of the Uralvagonzavod concern of the Rostec state corporation reported that a batch of 2S7M Malka long-range self-propelled artillery mounts (SAU) 203 mm caliber was transferred to the Russian Ministry of Defense ahead of schedule. It was noted that the self-propelled guns went through a full cycle of tests before being sent.
Back in September, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded in the shortest possible time to increase the volume and reduce the production time at the enterprises of the country’s military-industrial complex. They must ensure the delivery of the required equipment and weapons to the troops as soon as possible, he noted.
Russia continues the special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. A few days earlier, the situation in the region escalated significantly due to shelling by Ukrainian militants. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also turned to Moscow for help. On February 21, the President of the Russian Federation signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR.
