Social activists asked the Ministry of Internal Affairs to check the work of the company “SDEK.Market” (operates under the sign Sdek.Shopping). Since the beginning of May, the service has been offering to buy things abroad from foreign brands that have left the country or have suspended sales in the Russian Federation.
According to the estimates of the Public Consumer Initiative (PII), since the beginning of May, people have placed more than 30 thousand orders on the site for a total amount of more than 1.3 billion rubles.
“Despite the fact that a month has passed since the order was placed, the promised goods have not yet been delivered to customers, the company also does not return the money,” the organization clarified in a letter to the head of the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Andrei Kurnosenko (the document is available from “Izvestia”).
By the time the service was launched, significant difficulties in logistics were already known, Oleg Pavlov, head of the OPI, reminded Izvestia.
“The company began its activities after the imposition of sanctions and related restrictions, it could not help but know that they do not relate to force majeure circumstances,” the expert said.
Oleg Pavlov is sure that there may be signs of a crime in the actions of SDEK.Market – we can talk about appropriation, theft of someone else’s property. Responsibility for such violations is provided by Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Assignment or embezzlement”) – up to two years in prison. The OPI asked the Ministry of Internal Affairs to check the information from consumer complaints (they are attached to the appeal on 13 sheets) and assess whether the actions of the Sdek.Shopping service, which is being developed by the legal entity SDEK.Market LLC, are criminal.
