Well-known TV presenter Maxim Gurevich in Krasnoyarsk and his accomplices were detained on suspicion of embezzlement of funds for gifted children. This was announced on January 18 by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (IC RF) for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Republic of Khakassia.
Investigators found that at the end of 2021, this group of persons stole more than 5 million rubles from the regional budget, which were allocated by the regional Ministry of Sports for the non-profit organization for the protection of the rights of children with disabilities “Open Hearts”. The money was intended to organize an awards ceremony for gifted children in the field of culture and art, education, physical education and sports.
As a result, the suspects, according to the website of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, “realizing criminal intent”, submitted to the Ministry of Sports fictitious agreements on the alleged organization of the ceremony, in which the cost of the work they performed was overstated, and some of them were not performed at all.
“A criminal case has been initiated on the fact of embezzlement by deception of funds from the budget of the Krasnoyarsk Territory on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by a group of persons, on an especially large scale using official position),” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
The suspects were detained, the investigation intends to petition for the election of a measure of restraint in the form of detention for the defendants.
Earlier, on January 16, a source for Izvestia reported that the mayor of the city of Svirsk in the Irkutsk region, Vladimir Ornoev, is suspected of stealing one and a half million rubles from the budget, which were allocated for the purchase of the Singing Tree art object. On the fact of embezzlement of budgetary funds, criminal cases were initiated under the articles “Fraud” and “Exceeding official powers.”
