Centurion: “You can’t depend on just one bowler; The other bowlers have to do their part too,” Indian captain Rohit Sharma said after the Test match defeat against South Africa.
India suffered an innings defeat in the first Test match against the South African cricket team. The match was played at the Centurion Cricket Ground. The Indian team lost the toss and batted first and were all out for 245 runs in the first innings. The South African team was subsequently bowled out for 408 runs in the first innings. Dean Elgar scored 185 runs. Marco Jansson scored 84 runs. Bumrah took maximum 4 wickets on behalf of the Indian team.
India started the second innings trailing by 163 runs. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs off 82 balls to give consolation. Gill had scored 26 runs. All the other batsmen got out in single digit runs. India were all out for 131 runs in 34.1 overs. With that, South Africa won the innings. South Africa have taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Speaking about the Test defeat, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma said, “This is not a pitch that can score 400 runs. But we conceded a lot of runs. Bumrah bowled well. We all know about his quality. He got no support. Can’t depend on just one bowler; Other bowlers also have to do their part. We have faith in other bowlers. They tried. However, what we wanted did not happen. We have to learn from how South Africa bowled.
Prasith Krishna is an inexperienced player. I agree that he hasn’t played a lot of Test cricket. South Africa also had inexperienced players. They did what the team needed. Thus the team won.
When you get an opportunity you have to make the most of it and get the job done for the team. Prasith must have been nervous as he was playing his first match. Everyone would have been nervous while playing the first match like that. We are aware of Prasit Krishna’s talent. So our team will support him.”
