National team and Sharjah Cultural Chess Club player Salem Abdul Rahman continued his series of strong performances in the seventh Sharjah Masters International Chess Championship. Salem was able to achieve his second successive victory at the expense of Englishman Royal Shreyas, topping the rankings of players participating in the tournament. At the first table, in an early surprise, the first seed and holder of the last edition’s title, the Indian Arjun Irigaisi, was defeated by the Greek Teodoro Nicholas. At the second table, the result of the match between the Ukrainian veteran Vasiliy Ivanchuk and the Iranian Amin Tabatabai ended with the latter’s victory.
American Hans Nyman also continued his good results, achieving his second victory over Azerbaijani Jokhangir Vakhidov. At the fifth table, Indian Jeetham Baram achieved a well-deserved victory over his Azerbaijani counterpart, Muhammad Muradli, and at table six, a draw prevailed between Czech Ingwin Tai Fan and Georgian Nicolozi Kacharava.
