New Delhi . The new Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 foldable smartphones are expected to see sales of 9 million units this year, helping to push Samsung’s foldable market share to 80 per cent by the end of 2022. This information has been given in a new report. During the first half of this year, Samsung had a decent share of the foldables market, accounting for 62 percent of the market. Huawei and Oppo finished second and third.
Counterpoint Research said that foldables remain the fastest growing smartphone product category this year and Samsung continues to lead the category with the first Galaxy Fold device.
The report mentions that foldables are expected to grow to 26 million units in 2023.
“Strong growth outpaces current economic constraints as premium markets show resilience and stable demand. Counterpoint forecasts strong growth next year as well,” said senior analyst Jane Park.
The global foldable smartphone market is expected to grow by 73 per cent this year, from 9 million units last year to 16 million units.
Park said, “Samsung has led the market from the beginning and we think its dominance will continue for some time. Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi and Vivo are all introducing new foldables, but they mostly cater to the Chinese market only. are limited.”
Motorola may be the only contender in markets like the US for now.
With the expansion of smartphone use cases, its importance is increasing especially in media, entertainment and work.
“Given the growth in foldables, we see the premium market showing strong growth despite macro headwinds, with the ultra-premium segment leading the way,” Park said.
