Sol. Samsung Electronics will reportedly not switch the default search engine of its smartphones from Google to Microsoft’s Bing anytime soon. According to The Wall Street Journal, Samsung has suspended an internal review it is considering to replace Google with Bing, its web-browsing app that comes pre-installed on the company’s smartphones.
In the month of April, news surfaced that Samsung was planning to switch from Google to Bing as its default search engine on Galaxy mobiles.
Previously, Samsung’s decision to switch was influenced by Microsoft’s Bing AI. The competition for AI dominance was fierce at the time, and the tech giants were determined not to back down.
Despite Google’s Bard AI launch, it failed to show any immediate promise due to lack of refinement.
However, it is not clear why the company changed its decision. But one possibility can be attributed to Google’s recent showcase of its impressive AI game during the Google I/O 2023 event.
Meanwhile, Google, in collaboration with Android device makers, is working to prevent random app killing in the background, and Samsung is the first company to participate when One UI 6.0 based on Android 14 is launched later this year. Galaxy phone owners will benefit.
The collaboration aims to solve one of the long-standing problems in Android, the restriction of foreground service and background tasks.
