‘The Rig’ project articulates an innovative vision to revolutionize marine sports and adventure tourism globally. The project is being implemented by Oil Park Development Company (OPDC), a joint stock company wholly owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).
The project is designed in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives of increasing tourism, creating jobs, attracting investment and diversifying the economy. It is a project of more than 300,000 square meters of building area, 40 km from the coast near Al Jurayd Island and the Berri oil field in the Arabian Gulf.
The project is expected to be completed by 2032. OPDC CEO Raed Bakhraji said The Rig is expected to attract nine lakh domestic, regional and international visitors annually. The center will appeal to fun and adventure lovers, explorers and holiday retreat seekers.
It will have three hotels with 800 rooms, 11 restaurants, a boat jetty, helipads, sports and adventure park. The rig also offers a variety of water-based activities, including a swimming and diving center, an amusement park, a splash park and an e-sports center. He also noted that the project, which celebrates Saudi Arabia’s rich oil and gas heritage, will offer a unique and extraordinary adventure recreation experience.
