According to the police, while being taken for investigation, the accused snatched a revolver from a policeman in Thane and started firing. The police fired in self-defense. Shinde was killed in the firing. After this incident, the politics of Maharashtra has heated up and opposition leaders are raising questions on this encounter (Badlapur encounter). With this, a round of allegations and counter-allegations has started between the ruling Mahayuti government and the opposition and it is being said to be a ploy to destroy evidence because the school in which this incident took place is owned by a BJP leader.

On the other hand, raising questions on the encounter (Badlapur encounter), former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that it is not possible for a person wearing handcuffs to fire a bullet. NCP MP Supriya Sule said that the incident is a “complete failure of law enforcement and justice system” in Maharashtra, while Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan called it a “black day for Maharashtra Police”.
According to the police, 24-year-old Akshay was taken from Taloja jail to Badlapur for investigation at around 5 pm on Wednesday. While returning, at around 6:15 pm, on Thane’s Mumbra bypass, the accused snatched the revolver from the waist of Assistant Police Inspector (API) Nilesh More and fired three rounds at the policemen. This encounter lasted for a full 10 minutes. After this, the SIT team reached the place where the encounter took place (Badlapur encounter).
