ADR conducted this survey considering 8 national parties and 27 regional parties across the country. It said that this report has been prepared based on the details of the income tax returns and donations submitted by the respective parties to the Election Commission between 2004-05 and 2020-21.
According to this survey report, in the financial year 2020-21, 8 national parties received donations of Rs.426.74 crore from unknown sources. 27 regional parties received Rs.263.92 crore as donations.
For the financial year 2020-21, the Congress party received 178.782 crores of donations from hidden sources. It is noteworthy that the share of the Congress party in the donations to the national parties is 41.89 percent. During the same period, Rs.100.502 crores were donated to the BJP party from unknown sources. This share is 23.55 percent of the total donations received by the national parties.
Among the regional parties, 5 parties received the highest amount of hidden donations. In this list YSR Congress Party is at the first position with Rs.96.2507 crores. DMK (Rs. 80.02 crores), BJD (Rs. 67 crores), MNS (Rs. 5.773 crores) and Aam Aadmi Party (Rs. 5.4 crores) are in the next positions.
The ADR survey revealed that 47.06% of the total donations of Rs.690.67 crore received by the national and regional parties came from electoral bonds. The 8 national parties considered for the ADR survey are BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), CPM, CPI, NCP, BSP and National People’s Party.
