According to Buddhist tradition, the birth of a white elephant is considered auspicious. The baby elephant was born at 6.30 am on July 23 in the state of Rakhine on the west coast of the country. According to the Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper, the elephant is about two and a half feet tall and more than three feet wide. The weight of a baby elephant is about 80 kg.
In the footage shared by the local media, the baby elephant can be seen being cared for and bathed by the custodians. Local media say the mother of the baby elephant, 33-year-old Sir Nan Hla, is being protected by the Myanmar Timber Enterprise in Rakhine State. The child had seven of the eight characteristics associated with rare white elephants.

Pearly white eyes, white hair, unique tail, five claws on the front legs are the characteristics of a baby elephant. The baby elephant is yet to be named. At the end of last month, people started posting about the baby elephant on social media.
White elephants are considered extremely auspicious in Southeast Asian culture. Also the old rulers of the region used to own white elephants to increase their fortunes. Keeping and feeding these elephants is a huge expense.
