President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Sentop intervened during the Ukrainian delegation’s attempt to protest during the address of the deputy head of the Russian parliamentary delegation, Olga Timofeeva, at the 30th anniversary summit of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), reports Anadolia.
The summit of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) was held in a hotel in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
During Timofeyeva’s speech, the Ukrainian delegation stood behind the Russian representative, unfurled the flags of Ukraine with the coat of arms and the ultra-nationalist organization Right Sector (Praviy Sektor) and chanted slogans against Russia.
There was a brief altercation between the two sides after the Russian delegation tried to prevent this act by the Ukrainians.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Anna Purtova, left her seat during Timofeyeva’s speech.
The President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye Sentop at one point intervened verbally during the protest of the Ukrainian delegation with the flag.
Sentop demanded that the delegation, which violated the agenda of the session, be taken out of the hall.
“Whoever we gave the floor to, will speak here. I will not allow anyone to disrupt the peace and order at the session. If someone has such an intention, let them come out,” he said.
He pointed out that everyone can express their opinion and ideas in the address.
“There are no obstacles for that, but if someone tries to do something else, these meetings will no longer be parliamentary and will turn into street behavior,” Sentop said.
He stressed that he does not allow such actions and asked those who want to speak to come out without first being given the floor.
The Ukrainian delegation continued to verbally throw insults until the speech of the deputy head of the Russian delegation, Timofeeva, was finished.
