Chennai: Accepting the request of the Federation of Indian Engineers, the Central Government has decided to celebrate Engineer M. Visvesvaraya’s birthday on September 15 as ‘Engineer’s Day’.
The Indian Engineers Federation (INDEF) has requested the Central Government to celebrate the birth anniversary of India’s famous engineer and ‘Bharat Ratna’ awardee Sir M. Visveswariah on September 15 as ‘Engineer’s Day’.
In response to this, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to celebrate Vishwas Varaiah’s birthday on September 15 as ‘Engineer’s Day’.
In this regard, the ministry has written to all state chief secretaries, central and state public works departments, departments implementing other centrally funded projects, chief engineers of various state departments, managing director of the National Highways Authority and others.
In the letter, it is mentioned that September 15 is celebrated as ‘Engineer’s Day’ and on that day, programs like conducting seminars, promoting communication skills, organizing lectures on technology, recognizing and giving awards to engineers who have achieved achievements in various technical fields should be held.
It has also directed all parties to issue necessary instructions to celebrate ‘Engineer’s Day’.
