In Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, a civil protest “Serbia against violence” was held on Saturday night, and thousands of citizens gathered on the streets of Belgrade, reports Anadolu.
The protest started in front of the House of the Serbian Parliament, after which the procession went to the Police Department of Belgrade with a stop in front of Radio-Television of Serbia. Demonstrators went to the Police Department to support inspectors Slobodan Milenković and Dušan Mitić from the Jovanjic case and all, as the organizers stated, honorable policemen.
Civil protests in Serbia began at the beginning of May after two mass murders in which 19 people were killed, nine of whom were students of a Belgrade elementary school.
Citizens at the protests formally organized by the Serbian pro-European opposition are demanding an end to the promotion of violence in public space, i.e. an immediate interruption of the broadcasting of reality programs and shows that promote violence, aggression and immorality on televisions with a national frequency and the confiscation of the national frequency of the private pro-regime televisions Pink and Happy that broadcast such program.
Institutional responsibility is also demanded, i.e. the dismissal of Interior Minister Bratislava Gašić and the head of the Security and Information Agency, Aleksandar Vulin.
Citizens also demand the removal of the management of Radio and Television Serbia for broadcasting programs that affirm crime and violence, and the banning of print media whose content promotes aggression and violence, publishes fake news and violates the journalistic code.
Protests are organized by Moramo – Zajedno, Green-Left Front – Ne damo Serbia, People’s Party, Freedom and Justice Party, Democratic Party and Movement of Free Citizens, with the support of numerous citizens and activists.
