The handball team at the Sharjah Club is seeking its first title in history in the Asian Club Championships, Champions League, when it faces, at six in the evening today, the defending champion Saudi Arabian Gulf team, in the final match of the 27th edition held since the 12th of this month, in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Sharjah was able to reach the final for the first time in its career, by achieving a difficult victory in extra time at the expense of Kazma Al Kuwaiti with a score of (28-27). In turn, the Gulf team reserved its place for the final by defeating Al-Duhail of Qatar with a score of (23-21). Sharjah relies on a group of experienced national players, led by goalkeeper Mohamed Al-Taher, who saved a penalty kick in the last seconds of the match with Kazma, which was enough to give “The King” a pass to the final.
The team, led by its coach Mohamed Kishk, is also relying on professional elements, whether Tunisian Misbah Al-Sanea, or the new trio with which Sharjah supported its ranks to compete in this tournament, consisting of the Qatari international and Al-Gharafa club player Zarko Markovic, the Qatari national team goalkeeper and Al-Arabi club player Erhad Alijudzic, and the international Tunisian Rayan Ben Mahmoud, loaned from Shabab Al-Ahly Club.
It is noteworthy that the Sharjah Club team is the second club in the country to succeed in reaching the final match, after the Shabab Al-Ahly team, which lost the final of the 2002 edition to Al-Sadd of Qatar (30-33), and in the final of the 2012 edition to Al-Rayyan of Qatar by (24-26).
