Tomorrow evening (Thursday), the historic cricket stadium in Sharjah will witness the opening of the ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cricket Championship, which the UAE won the right to organize in both Dubai and Sharjah, by decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC), after it was not possible to organize it in Bangladesh.
The CEO of the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium, Khalaf Bukhatir, said, “His father, Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, the historical founder and spiritual father of cricket in the Emirates and the region, requested the need to provide and monitor all necessary capabilities, to make hosting the event in Sharjah special and exceptional, befitting the name of the tournament, its location, and the history of Sharjah Stadium.”
It is noteworthy that the tournament will last for 18 days, during which 23 matches will be held. The tournament matches will be divided between Dubai and Sharjah, with the two semi-final matches scheduled for October 17 in Dubai and October 18 in Sharjah, and the final match will be held in Dubai. The participating teams have also been divided into two groups. The first group includes six-time world champion Australia, along with India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while the second group includes Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the West Indies and Scotland.
