Yesterday, the Abu Dhabi Chess Club announced the results of the “Family Chess” competitions, as part of the 30th edition of the International Chess Festival.
The competition was held for one day, the day before yesterday, according to the Swiss system of seven rounds, and each team consists of players representing the children and their parents (father, mother or brother).
The title and gold medal were won by the Sharma family, of Indian nationality, with 11 points from four matches (one win and three draws).
The Yakubev family from Uzbekistan came in second, taking the silver medal after collecting 10 points from four wins, two draws and one loss. Third place and the bronze went to the family of Moroccan international master Mohamed Tayssir, who collected 10 points from three wins, four draws and no losses.
It is noteworthy that the tournament will be held from August 15 to 25 at the Radisson Blu and St. Regis – Corniche hotels, with the participation of more than 2,200 male and female players representing 82 countries.
The festival’s tournaments include: International Masters Competitions, Open Championship A, Open Championship B, Juniors from eight to 16 years old, Blitz Chess open to all, Blitz Chess for Juniors, Family Chess, Community Teams, Academies Championship, Institutions Championship, People of Determination Championship, and Schools Championship for both genders from nine to 17 years old.
