New Delhi: Siva Chauhan, a woman officer, has become the first woman army officer to be posted on Siachen Glacier, one of the highest snow peaks in the country.
The Siachen Glacier holds the distinction of being the highest battlefield on Earth. Since 1984, India and Pakistan have fought sporadically over this high glacier region.
In this case, Captain Siva Chauhan of the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps has been deployed to protect the country at Kumar Post in the Siachen Glacier.
This official information was given by the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps on its Twitter page. In a Twitter post with the caption ‘Breaking the glass ceiling’, Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps Captain Siva Chauhan said that after rigorous training, Kumar will be the first woman to be deployed at the post.
A senior officer of the Fire and Fury Corps said, “Shiva Chauhan has the honor of being the first female officer to be appointed in this area.
Also, 244 women officers in the army will soon be given the rank of colonel (selection grade) for the first time.
Captain Shiva Chauhan will be on guard duty at the top of Siachen Peak, which is 15,632 feet above sea level. He was given training on how to climb a glacier, how to protect himself in extreme cold, how to deal with a problem like a blizzard, and how to survive.”
Captain Siva Chauhan hails from Rajasthan. It is noteworthy that he studied B.Tech in Jaipur and trained at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.
According to an officer of the Fire and Fury Corps, “Captain Siva Chauhan, who has the honor of being the first female officer to be deployed in the Siachen Glacier, lost her father at the age of 11. Raised under the care of his mother, he rose to the rank of officer after hard work and became a role model for many. Many people should follow him and come forward to join the army,” he said.
