Jalandhar: Angad Singh, a Sikh journalist based in America. He has been shooting and publishing news films for Vice News, an American website. He arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi from America 3 days ago.
Then he was detained by the police and immigration officials and deported back to his country. Immigration officials said he was sent to New York on the next flight.
Angad Singh’s mother Gurmeet Kaur said that the police had not given any reason to deport him.
He added, “My son Angad Singh, who is a US citizen, traveled 18 hours to India. He traveled to visit us in Punjab. But upon landing at the airport, he was intercepted by authorities and deported. He was sent to New York on the next flight. They did not give any reason for this. But I know it’s his award-winning magazine that scares them. This may be due to the newsreels published by him.
Being a Sikh and more so a journalist, a fighter for truth and justice is not easy. Speaking the truth has a price. We have to pay the price. I comfort your (son) back. “Let’s meet in a free country,” he said. It is noteworthy that he has produced and released news films titled India’s Covid Hell, Farmers’ Struggle in Delhi.
