Paris. Indian para athlete Simran Sharma won the bronze medal in the final of the women’s 200m T12 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024 by finishing the race in 24.75 seconds. Simran has performed her personal best and finished on the podium.
In this event, Cuba’s Omara Durand won the gold medal by completing the race in 23.62 seconds while Venezuela’s Alejandra Perez won the silver medal by completing the race in 24.19 seconds. This is India’s 28th medal in the Paris Paralympics. The T12 classification in the Paralympics is for visually impaired athletes. Simran made it to the finals of this event on September 6 by completing the race in 25.03 seconds.
Simran had earlier topped her heat and entered the semi-finals with a timing of 25.41 seconds. This time India has seen its best performance ever in the Paralympics (Paris Paralympics), in which it has succeeded in winning a total of 28 medals. Apart from 6 gold, this includes 9 silver and 13 bronze medals.
India has won the maximum number of medals, 16, in different events of para athletics. Apart from this, India has won 5 medals in para badminton, 4 in para shooting, 2 in para archery and 1 medal in para judo event. India has won 6 gold medals in Paris Paralympics, which includes the names of Harvinder Singh, Avni Lakhera, Praveen Kumar, Sumit, Dharambir and Nitesh Kumar.
