Dhanush is one of the leading actors who have gained market share in Telugu. Every movie he acts in is also translated into Telugu. This time he made his entry into Telugu and said `Sir’. The film is directed by Telugu director Venky Atluri and produced by Sithara Entertainments in association with Telugu production company Fortune Four Cinemas. Let’s see what the story is like before we know how this movie released amid good expectations…
What is the story?
It was a period of 2000 years when the living standards of people in India were increasing with economic reforms. Engineering education is in demand. In addition to this, some selfish people turn education into a business and start extorting money. One of them is… Tripathi (Samudrakhani), Head of Tripathi Educational Institutions and President of Private Colleges Association. Tripathi turns to the teachers working in government colleges hoping for higher salaries. As a result, government colleges which are the basis of middle class and poor children will be closed. Many students drop out of private colleges because they are unable to pay thousands upon thousands of fees. Concerns begin over this. Tripathi, who changed his strategy, told the government that he would adopt and run the government colleges themselves. His strategy is to send there junior lecturers who have no experience working in their colleges and continue his business with poor quality studies. Balagangadhara Tilak alias Balu Sir (Dhanush) was a junior lecturer appointed to study at Siripuram Government Junior College working under him. What kind of challenges did Balu sir face who said that he will go to Siripuram college and get hundred percent result? The rest of the story is how biology lecturer Meenakshi (Samyukta) helped him. How is it?
Although the story is set in the background of 1990…2000, the film is also close to today’s conditions in terms of education. Education is like prasad in temple. The purpose of this movie is to say that it should be shared but… it should not be shared like a dish in a five star hotel. The main strength of this movie is the story that connects everyone. However, the shortcomings are visible in the way the story is run. The drama is too much. In this story, where emotions are the main thing, due to the scenes that are not natural, in many places you get the feeling that the movie is moving artificially. The director takes the audience into the story by arousing interest from the video cassettes found in the shop. The initial scenes like the introduction of Balu Sir’s character, his going to Siripuram College and the noise he makes with his fellow teachers are impressive. Challenges after moving to the village, The way they are overcome is also emotional. Especially the scenes like telling the life story of Abdul Kalam to fill the consciousness of the people of the village and bringing about change in the children to remove the differences between the castes are touching. In between, the love story of the heroines also goes smoothly. Although it seems cinematic here and there, the film seems to have no problem with emotions till the first half. The melodrama became too much in the second half. In the second half, it is seen that Tripathi overcomes the obstacles and gives lessons to the children and leads them towards the goal. The movie loses its interest as the scenes are stretched to a large extent and there is no twist in them. Flagship scenes are also against the concept of the film. It seems to have helped the private ranks.
Who did it?
Dhanush is convincing in the role of Balu sir. He looks sober as a lecturer and has a strong impact on the character. Emotions, fighting moments, comedy…. he entertains in all things. Samyukta looked beautiful. She got a prominent role with the protagonist. Samudrakha as Tripathi and Saikumar as Sarpanch of Siripuram are seen in strong roles. Adi smiled in the first half. Technically the film is superior. GV Prakash’s music takes the film to another level. Music plays an important role in the development of emotions. Yuvraj’s camera work is impressive. The structure is superior. The director has chosen a good plot. The way it is styled with commercial touches is also good. It seems that the exercises done in terms of the story are not enough.
Strengths: Education based story, first half, Dhanush’s acting
Weaknesses: Over-dramatic, cliched scenes
Finally: Sir… It doesn’t seem to matter.
