Digital Desk, Beijing. Several cities in China’s Hunan province have ordered the closure of classes in schools due to blizzard conditions.
The Provincial Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert for low temperatures and freezing rain and snow at 4 pm. A yellow alert was issued for more snow storms on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.
The first snowfall of this winter season has occurred in many parts of the state since Saturday evening. By 2 pm on Sunday, 17 counties, cities or districts had accumulated snow depths of more than 10 cm. To ensure the safety of teachers and students, the cities of Ludi, Huahua and Shaoyang and Tujia-Miao Prefecture of Jiangxi have issued a circular calling for schools to close.
China has a four-level, colour-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
