Ladakh: Due to climate change, snow peaks are melting in the Himalayan regions, causing havoc. Sonam Wangchuck, a social activist from the region, has started a 5-day fast on Republic Day to protect the environment of Ladakh.
He fasts in the freezing cold of minus 40 degrees Celsius in Kartung La, 18,000 feet above sea level. In this regard, in a video posted on social media, he said, “The people of the country and the world should come forward to help protect the environment of Ladakh. I request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and take action,” he said.
In an interview given to a private media, he said, “Neither science nor technology can correct the effects of climate change. At this time, the people of the country should unite to protect the mountains, rivers and forests of India,” he said. Support for him is growing on social media.
