Early next month, Social Security beneficiaries who are registered in the “my Social Security” app will begin receiving online notices about the COLA increase. (Cost of Living Adjustment) that will be reflected in your monthly checks.
To users assigned to the online service You will receive notifications through the “Message Center” of your account in my Social Security.
“You can access this information in early December before receiving notification by mail (postal). Benefit amounts will not be available before December. Since you will receive the COLA notification online and by mail, you do not need to contact us to find out your new benefit amount,” the office explains in a blog on its website.
Beneficiaries had until November 14 to activate an account in the system and thus receive information about the new increase.
When will the COLA letter arrive by post?
Otherwise, Social Security will mail you a letter with details about the increase sometime during the same month.
“This (my Social Security) is a secure and convenient way to receive COLA notices online and save the message for later. You may also opt out of receiving mail notices that are available online. Be sure to choose your preferred way to receive courtesy notifications so you don’t lose your COLA notice online, safely and conveniently,” the entity recommends.
SSA reminded recipients that its services are free and warned of the tricks of possible scammers to steal sensitive information.
“No government agency or reputable company will ask for your personal information or request advance fees for services in the form of money transfers or gift cards. Avoid becoming a victim of telephone fraud or internet fraud (known as “phishing”) by not revealing personal information, selecting malicious links, or opening malicious attachments. First payments with COLA increase will be sent on December 29
Due to the holidays, Social Security will process the first payments with the 3.2% COLA increase on December 29 to beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.
After that first delivery, it will distribute the rest of the payments corresponding to the month of January based on a calendar organized according to the beneficiaries’ birthdays.
Electronic transfers are made every Wednesday.
