The Ukrainian servicemen who surrendered said that the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were sending their subordinates to certain death and urged them “not to fight for NATO.” On Monday, June 6, prisoners of war told Izvestia about this.
“I want to ask everyone to change their minds. We are being deceived and led to certain death. There are people here just like us. I ask you to reach out to the commanders so that as many lives as possible can be saved, ”captured Dmitry Gaidan told the publication.
Another surrendered fighter called to stop fighting for NATO.
“Whoever wanted where – in NATO. I don’t want to go anywhere. I felt good without NATO, and I will continue to live well. Just don’t fight anymore,” he said.
Earlier, on June 1, a captured serviceman of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmitry Markov told Izvestia that he was forced to fight under the threat of prison. They called him on the phone and demanded to appear at the military registration and enlistment office. Three days later they brought the summons. According to him, those who came to the military registration and enlistment office were not even told where they were going to go. People found out about it while already sitting on the train. Later, they realized that they were being taken to Donetsk and Lugansk, where shelling was taking place. Markov said that half of the servicemen of his platoon simply wrote reports and refused to serve.
Russia continues the special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. The key goals of the Russian military are the denazification and demilitarization of the Kyiv regime. This is necessary to ensure the security of the Russian state and people. Moscow also stressed that the strikes are carried out only on military infrastructure.
The situation in the region escalated in mid-February due to shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since 2014, the Ukrainian authorities have been fighting against the inhabitants of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’état in Ukraine.
