Sources revealed that the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and the Iranian, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, will meet in Beijing, on Thursday, to activate the content of the agreement to resume relations that was announced last month, and to arrange the exchange of ambassadors. The sources also revealed that the Beijing meeting was preceded by 3 contacts between the two ministers, which included the next steps to implement the agreement, procedures for reopening missions and activating previous agreements.
She explained that choosing China as a venue for the meeting between the Saudi and Iranian foreign ministers comes as an extension of Beijing’s positive role in reaching an agreement and facilitating communication between the two countries.
Implementation of the agreement within 60 days
Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed, under Chinese auspices, to resume their diplomatic relations. The two countries and China announced in a joint statement on March 10 that the agreement would be implemented within 60 days.
The tripartite statement stressed respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs. He also affirmed the activation of all joint agreements between Saudi Arabia and Iran, including the security cooperation agreement, and the cooperation agreement in the field of economy, trade, investment, technology, science, culture, sports and youth.
