The meteorological department has forecast monsoons to hit the Andaman coast by May 22. The monsoon is expected to reach the southwestern part of the Bay of Bengal till May 15. It is expected to hit the Kerala coast by June 1. Monsoons are believed to have entered the country as they hit the coast of Kerala. Monsoons extend across the country on weekdays that touch the coast of Kerala. Due to the southwest monsoon, the country receives heavy rainfall from June to September. Agriculture in the country is largely dependent on the rainfall during this period.
IMD has accurately predicted the arrival of monsoons over the past few years. Most of the times the monsoons enter on the same day as the Meteorological Department says. Sometimes 3, 4 days late. 60% of the rainfall is considered to be abundant rainfall.
