“Explosions were heard near Srebrenica. Suddenly four meters in front of me on this playground, an explosion, a detonation. For a few minutes I was not aware of myself. When I woke up, I saw massacred bodies around me, boys, my friends. Screaming, crying… Those who were alive called for help. A few more shells fell, and I managed to escape to a nearby house,” said Hasanović.
The bearer of the commemoration of the anniversary of the martyrdom is the “Srebrenica Mothers” Association in cooperation with the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Srebrenica.
The “Srebrenica Mothers” association reminds the public that no one has been held accountable for the crime against civilians on the playgrounds in Srebrenica on April 12, 1993, which they consider a defeat for the competent authorities and institutions.
“Year after year, we commemorate the suffering and massacre of civilians, and we speak, warn and appeal to the competent authorities to initiate proceedings and prosecute those responsible. 30 years have passed since the crime, and I can only say that it is shameful that the perpetrators of this crime are at large,” said Fazila Efendić, president of the “Srebrenica Mothers” Association.
“There were over 50,000 people in Srebrenica in 1993, considering that many from the surrounding towns such as Bratunac, Milići, Vlasenica, Zvornik tried to find salvation in Srebrenica. The beautiful April weather gathered a large number of people, mostly young people, on the playgrounds, because everyone was eager to socialize and do something positive. The grenades ended all that, and also the youth, because the largest number of people killed were young people. Many who survived were then, unfortunately, killed in July 1995. April 12, 1993 is written in bloody letters in the history of Srebrenica. Unfortunately, no one was held accountable for the crime,” said Hamdija Fejzić, deputy mayor of Srebrenica municipality.
