Sri Lanka. The process of capturing Indian fishermen is going on by the Sri Lankan Navy. On Sunday morning, eight Indian fishermen were caught by the Sri Lankan Navy and two boats were confiscated from them. The caught fishermen are residents of Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu.
The captured fishermen have been identified as Mangadu Bhatrappan, Reddyurani, Kannan, Chinna Reddyurani Muthuraj, Agasthiyar Kutam Kali and Thangachimad Yasin, Jesus, Uchipulli Ramakrishnan and Velu. According to the Mandapam Fishermen Association, the caught fishermen had gone towards the sea from Mandapam. They were fishing in the marine area of Palk Bay.
This morning the Sri Lankan Navy came to this area and started claiming that the fishermen had crossed the border. Yesterday on December 7, fishermen in 324 boats were fishing near Delft Island in Palk Bay area off Mandapam North coast of Ramanathapuram. Sri Lankan Navy reached the area this morning and seized two boats IND TN 11 MM.
After investigation, the fishermen and boats were handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries Department officials. This created confusion among the fishermen. Let us tell you that the issue of fishermen is a controversial issue in the relations between India and Sri Lanka. Most of such incidents occur in the Palk Strait. It is a strip between Tamil Nadu and northern Sri Lanka. It is considered a rich area for fishes. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had termed the arrest of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy as a serious issue and appealed to the Central Government to take concrete and proactive steps.
