five injuredThe Dutchman who was stabbed Sunday night and then shot at a beach club in Marbella with a gun has been released from hospital. This is confirmed by the Spanish police. The suspect is expected to appear in court today.
The shooting took place on Sunday night at the extremely popular Opium Beach Club disco. It is located on the beach, on the eastern edge of the center of the southern Spanish city. Five people were injured and were taken to hospital. Two of them, an 18-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man, suffered gunshot wounds to the hip and back, but have since been released from hospital. A wallet in the pocket would have slowed down one of the bullets, saving the life of one of these victims.
The alleged shooter, who was stabbed in the face, among other things, also no longer needed treatment. The other two injured are still in intensive care. It concerns a 32-year-old Moroccan woman who suffered injuries to her abdomen and pelvis as a result of one or more bullets. She has now undergone surgery. The other person in intensive care, according to police sources, is a 32-year-old Irish national who was also shot.

Spanish police suspect the gunman, who is originally from Tetouan, Morocco, shot in self-defense when he was attacked and believes he missed his target and shot bystanders instead. The man who started stabbing fled after the shots and has been missing since. The police are looking for him diligently, Spanish media write.
Little is known about the cause of the fight. In a reconstruction, Spanish media suggest there was a conflict over a woman in one of the beach club’s VIP areas. The still unknown man lashed out at the Dutchman and was then kicked out of the club by security.
That same person returned after a while and attacked the Dutchman again, this time armed with a sharp object. The Dutchman then drew his pistol and fired four times, creating a chaotic situation. Bleeding profusely, the gunman fled with a compatriot and stopped an ambulance. According to the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial they threatened rescuers and demanded that they take him to hospital. There he and his Dutch companion were arrested. The gun has not yet been found.
At the Spanish beach club, meanwhile, there is great defeat because of the drama. “I honestly have no words to describe what happened, what I do feel is pain, dismay and agony,” one of the owners wrote on Instagram this morning. “This was a terrible event that no one should experience in their life.”
Opium Beach Club is known worldwide as an exclusive beach club, which attracts celebrities from countless countries. The British newspaper reports Daily Mail that a cousin of the Spanish King Felipe VI, Froilán de Marichalar y Borbón, celebrated his 24th birthday there that evening. The nephew, along with his friends, hid in one of the toilets from the shots. Also the Dutch influencer and love island-participant Kelly van der Minne had to hide. She shared via social media that a woman next to her was hit by bullets.
The investigation into the shooting drama is in full swing in Spain. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in close contact with the Spanish authorities. A spokesperson cannot say where the two Dutch detainees come from. It would be two men, aged 26 and 32, a spokesperson confirmed this morning. Foreign Affairs has not yet received a request for consular assistance.
Europe Press reports based on municipal sources that the disco will remain closed at least until it is clear what exactly happened in the night from Sunday to Monday.
