Member of the State Duma Committee on Labour, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Svetlana Bessarab on Friday, May 6, named the reasons for the expected indexation of pensions.
“Based on the growth in the inflation rate for the first quarter, and Rosstat shows that the growth was 9.95%, it can be assumed that it is at this level that the pension may be increased,” Bessarab quotes RT as saying.
She stressed that this issue is still under discussion. At the moment, the exact level of indexing is unknown.
Earlier in the day, the parliamentarian said that pensions for Russian pensioners would be indexed automatically. She noted that pensions are expected to be indexed by 8-9%.
On April 20, the deputy also stated that the indexation of social payments, pensions and salaries of state employees should occur no later than the second quarter of 2022. According to her, the indexation proposal and the process itself will be worked out before the end of June.
On March 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that all social benefits, including benefits, pensions, minimum wages and public sector salaries, would be increased in the near future. He stressed that this task is not only economic in nature, but also “is a matter of social justice.”
