According to the information, after the earthquake in Badakhshan region of Afghanistan, tremors were felt in various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad today. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s magnitude was 5.1, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) put it at 5.3 on the Richter scale.
The USGS said the epicenter of the earthquake was 37 kilometers west-southwest of Ishkashim city in Afghanistan and at a depth of 220.7 kilometers. The earthquake occurred at 10:13 am (Pakistan time). Both the USGS and PMD confirmed this. No casualties have been reported yet. Earthquake tremors were felt in Peshawar and its surrounding areas as well as in Islamabad. After this many people vacated the buildings.
According to the National Seismological Monitoring Center in Islamabad, “the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 220 kilometers in the Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan.” Officials said that the earthquake occurred in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and Punjab. Earthquake was felt in various areas. Earthquakes occur frequently in Pakistan. More than 74,000 people were killed in the massive earthquake that occurred in 2005.
