A study conducted by the University of Hoffenheim, published on Monday, showed that more than 70% of football fans in Germany prefer to follow the Euro 2024 matches at home.
The study also found that watching in public places does not enjoy much support among the fans, and said that only 20% of the study participants tend to watch matches in public gatherings.
It also indicated that about 20% of respondents to the opinion poll do not plan to attend matches in public gatherings due to fear of terrorist threats, while 34% stated that refusal is due to crowding and the presence of a large number of people.
Many fans are instead planning to organize private viewing parties with friends and associates or visit bars.
Fans also confirmed that match ticket prices were too high, while the majority considered that group stage ticket prices, ranging from 30 to 400 euros, only seemed reasonable.
Only 14% of participants indicated that they had applied for a ticket through the Euro 2024 website, and less than half of these were able to obtain a ticket.
According to the study, a tenth of the participants are still looking for tickets, and do not hesitate to go to the black market, and two-thirds of those surveyed spend more than 180 euros for the German national team matches, while 28% resort to the black market for the matches of the other teams.
The German University of Hoffenheim explained that the study included 1,000 people on the topics of sports expectations, sponsorship, sports marketing, and the media and social impacts of the tournament, which will start next Friday.
