Sudan rejects a session of “human rights” on the situation in the country

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry confirmed its rejection of a session of the Human Rights Council on the situation in the country.

And she said in a statement today, Saturday, that the development of the human rights situation in Sudan will not be carried out by external orders.

She added that the protection and development of human rights is for Sudan a national agenda of high importance and at the forefront of the state’s priorities, and is not just measures taken by the government in implementation of external obligations.

It also stressed its refusal to hold a special session of the Human Rights Council on Sudan, while there is a previously scheduled session on Sudan in the regular session of the Human Rights Council, which will start on the nineteenth of next June.

And while there are ongoing negotiations in the city of Jeddah, with a Saudi-American initiative, aimed at stopping the conflict and paving the way for resolving the crisis.

agreement of principles

It is noteworthy that a declaration of principles was signed in Jeddah late on Thursday, after talks that lasted for nearly a week between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Since the sudden outbreak of clashes on April 15, neither side has shown little willingness to end the fighting that has killed hundreds of thousands and could plunge Sudan into all-out civil war.

The two sides issued statements on Friday accusing each other of harming civilians and turning a blind eye to the humanitarian needs of the population.

Paralyze the economy

The conflict paralyzed the Sudanese economy and stifled trade, exacerbating the major humanitarian crisis. The United Nations said Friday that 200 thousand have been displaced so far to neighboring countries.

However, UN Special Representative for Sudan Volker Peretz said he expected the ceasefire talks to resume on Saturday. He explained that the previous ceasefire agreements did not hold due to each side’s feeling of their ability to achieve victory, but he added that both now realize that victory will not be quick.
