His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, stressed the necessity of paying attention to all sports and working to educate people about them through specialized sports programs, which contributes to introducing them to the foundations of sports and fair play, and their willingness to encourage, enjoy sports, and participate in them through clubs.
This came during His Highness’s reception, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, this Wednesday afternoon, at Al Badi Al Amer Palace, the first handball team of the Sharjah Club, which won the 27th Asian League Champions Club Championship.
His Highness directed a reward worth five million dirhams to the team, in appreciation of their contribution and achievement of winning the continental title, and as an incentive for the players to continue to excel and achieve more titles in the upcoming competitions.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah congratulated the Sharjah Club for winning the championship, pointing out the importance of uniting roles and making efforts to achieve the goals of sport in general in all games, benefiting from its great benefits for young people and youth, and working to develop levels continuously to achieve sporting excellence.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah extended his thanks and appreciation to the players and team management, who worked hard and raised the name of the nation high, and presented a wonderful model of playing in a sportsmanlike spirit and achieving achievements at the local and foreign levels, which contributes to the spread of games other than football, and encourages young people to participate in them. His Highness said: “You paved the way for handball to cross from Sharjah to the international level.”
During his speech, His Highness discussed the fun that characterizes handball, away from the tension and nervousness that have become a necessary feature of football, which makes it lose its true enjoyment for which the sport was created. He pointed out the importance of good sportsmanship, and adherence to the laws of fair play and the decisions of the referees, which makes the sport achieve success. Its real goals.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah noted the great role of the media at the level of sports channels in spreading sports culture about all games, and providing specialized programs that explain the game and its laws, to introduce people to it, make them love it, educate them about its foundations, and encourage them to practice and follow it.
During his speech, His Highness touched on the interest and efforts of the Emirate of Sharjah in providing specialized clubs for women’s sports through which they practice various sports and games, develop abilities and talents and enhance health, in addition to organizing sports tournaments that spread fair competition and play according to the principles of sportsmanship.
At the end of his speech, His Highness called on young people of both sexes to practice sports, with the aim of benefiting from it and not just winning, because a healthy mind is in a healthy body, as Sharjah provides multiple clubs and specialized centers for practicing all group and individual sports.
His Highness kindly shook hands with the officials, players, administrative and technical bodies, and His Highness received a souvenir from the players. His Highness also took souvenir photos with the champion team, and His Highness kindly signed the shirt of the first handball team of the Sharjah Club, amid great joy for all attendees.
For their part, members of the administrative and technical staff and players of the first handball team at the Sharjah Sports Club extended thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for the great and continuous support that contributed to the club reaching the podiums.
