Uruguay and Barcelona star Ronald Araujo is undergoing surgery on his hamstring after sustaining an injury while playing for his country in the Copa America in the United States.
Araujo, 25, will travel to Finland for surgery after being assessed by Barcelona’s medical staff upon his return to Spain from America.
A statement issued by Barcelona on Monday said: “Medical tests have shown that first-team player Ronald Araujo has suffered an injury to his right hamstring.”
The statement added: “In the coming days, he will undergo surgery by Dr. Lasse Lempainen under the supervision of the club’s medical staff in Turku, Finland.”
He continued: “After the procedures are completed, there will be another medical update.”
Araujo played 37 matches for Barcelona, the runner-up in last season’s Spanish league, but he was injured after 33 minutes of the match in which Uruguay beat Brazil on penalties in the Copa America quarter-finals about a week ago.
