According to the latest American Staffing Association Workforce Monitor online survey, conducted by The Harris Poll of more than 2,000 adults, the vast majority of Americans prefer face-to-face job interviews over virtual ones.
Altogether, the 70% of all Americans prefer face-to-face job interviewscompared to 17% who prefer video calls and just 9% who prefer audio calls.
According to the survey, 74% of Hispanic Americans are significantly more likely than their Caucasian counterparts (65%) to feel the need to Modify your appearance before participating in job interviews.
“Job seekers may prefer to have the option to work remotely, but still they want their first impressions to be in person for a job interviewsaid Richard Wahlquist, president and CEO of the American Staffing Association.
“To attract the best talent and create more inclusive workplaces, employers must send a clear message to candidates that they are hiring. based on their abilities and not the dress or physical appearance codes of another eraWahlquist added.
Among the conclusions of the survey, it was found that:
– 33% of African Americans reported feeling the need to shave their facial hair before an interview.a, compared to 25% of Hispanic Americans and 22% of Caucasian Americans.
– 19% of Hispanic Americans and 17% of African Americans felt the need to cover their tattoos, compared to 10% of Caucasian Americans.
– 18% of Hispanic Americans and 14% of African Americans felt compelled to remove their body piercingscompared to 9% of Caucasian Americans.
– Men (39%) are more likely to feel the need to cut their hair or change their hair style to attend an interview than women (23%).
– Women believe that interview preparation strategies are more important compared to menFor example:
– Research the company, 73% vs. 66%
– select clothing for the interview, 72% vs. 60%
– Prepare questions to ask during the interview66% vs. 56%.
The difference continues beyond the interview stage, as 70% of men say they would be perfectly comfortable asking a supervisor for a raisecompared to 58% of women.
