As soon as the dry season comes, there is water shortage in many parts of Maharashtra. This is not all the difficulties that the people of Gukkedu have to face for drinking water. Gangodbari village in Nashik is one such area. People here are risking their lives for water. Desperate for water, they descend into a 70 feet well. They are used to doing such risky maneuvers every day to meet their daily needs.
The region has been suffering from water scarcity for a decade. Years are passing by.. governments are changing.. but their problem is not being solved. Descending into a 70-feet well with the help of ropes, the water at the bottom is filled in pots and pulled up. It is difficult to imagine the situation even a little bit. But.. such feats are not only done by men.. women also do it. Standing on the edge of the well, tying ropes to the cans and releasing them into the well, pulling them up when the water is full, women also do dangerous adventures.
However, locals say that this situation has been going on for ten years. Even though they know that it is an accident, they say that they do not hesitate to clear their throats. The women there are expressing their grief that they have to come to this well, which is three kilometers away from the village, sometimes even at night. The people of Gangodpari village say that if they ask the authorities about the problem of water shortage, they are not getting funds. It is alleged that the answer is coming that the funds received under the Central Jal Jeevan Mission are also insufficient. Their hardship melts the heart of any leader.. Let’s see when their pain will end..!
