Hayrik Yervandyan, who was detained on suspicion of the murder of businessman Hovhannes Kamaryan in the center of Moscow, pleaded guilty. He is currently cooperating with the investigation. This was announced on Saturday, June 4, in the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Moscow.
“Under the weight of the available evidence during the interrogation, the young man admitted his guilt and showed in detail during the verification of testimony on the spot how he committed the crime,” said Yulia Ivanova, senior assistant to the head.
Also on Saturday, the Khamovniki Court of Moscow sent Hayrik Yervandyan under arrest. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period until August 3, 2022 in relation to a 24-year-old man, the Moscow prosecutor’s office reports.
62-year-old businessman Hovhannes Kamaryan was shot dead on the evening of June 2, when, in the company of 22-year-old companion Ekaterina Popova, he was returning from a restaurant on Komsomolsky Prospekt. The killer was waiting for the businessman in the yard nearby. He fired several shots at Kamaryan with a silenced pistol, photographed the body and fled.
On the afternoon of June 3, it became known that the alleged killer was detained by the police. It turned out to be 24-year-old Hayrik Yervandyan. The Investigative Committee said that law enforcement agencies are now working with him. The police are trying to figure out who could have given Yervandyan a weapon. There is a possibility that the silencer on the gun was homemade.
Blood feud is considered as the main reason for the murder. It is reported that Hayrik Yervandyan was the brother of Rafael Mardoyan, the bodyguard of businessman Rafael Mardoyan, who was killed in Yerevan last year, and who was planned to be assassinated. According to some information, Hovhannes Kamaryan was the customer of the crime. It is noted that the murder on Komsomolsky Prospekt occurred on the anniversary of the murder of that same bodyguard.
