Minh V. (49), one of the most wanted criminals in the Netherlands for a month, confessed to the murder of his former mother-in-law and the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend immediately after his arrest. In his own words, he was not on the run to avoid punishment. “He wanted to leave money for his ex-girlfriend Anneke,” says his lawyer. “He needed time for that.”
,,He now wants to get his sentence as soon as possible,” says his lawyer Haroon Raza, who opens up at the request of his client. “Whether it’s life, or thirty years or TBS. He says: ‘I sign for that’.”
During the interrogations, he confessed in detail to the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend Anneke and the murder of her 66-year-old mother Michel a month ago at a shopping center in Zwijndrecht. “He says it was never his intention to hurt Anneke.”

This weekend, V. sent a letter to his ex to express his regret, says Raza. The 38-year-old from Rotterdam was seriously injured and will probably have to live with the consequences for the rest of her life. The family reacts ‘full of disbelief’ to the statement of the man from Dordrecht, who is nicknamed Lucky. “They don’t believe a word of it and don’t want to waste any more words on it,” says a spokesman.
Guilt conscious
The words also raise many questions. If he really is so guilty and wants to get his sentence, why didn’t he immediately report himself to the police? He was hunting him day in and day out with many agents and detectives.
He also does not recognize himself in the image painted in the media
“The image has arisen that he wanted to hurt her even more. That’s nonsense, he says. He would never do that. He also does not recognize himself in the image painted in the media. He wanted to leave money for Anneke. He needed another two weeks to get that together.”
Robberies, threats and theft
V. has a long history of robberies, possession of weapons, threats and theft. Did he want to commit another robbery? ,,No, not that. You should rather think of outstanding bills.” In the search for V., the police raided addresses that had previously also surfaced in the investigation into the criminal organization of drug boss Piet Costa. The lawyer does not want to say anything about this.
When he had received the money ‘he wanted to take his own life or report to the police’. His firearm was in the car when he was arrested. He could have reached it, but he didn’t want to hurt anyone anymore. He really only had it with him for himself.” He would have carried the number of the police tip line on a note.
He did not hide, came out on the street. It’s not like anyone helped him either
In his eyes, V. has not hidden himself, says Raza. “He didn’t hide, he came out on the street. It’s not like anyone helped him either. Friends he had contact with tried to dissuade him from committing suicide. They told him to report to the police.”
Completely known
Finally, after a tip, the police stopped his flight on the Kethel Bridge in Schiedam last Saturday. Even before his lawyer was present, he confessed wholeheartedly.
According to his statement, the man from Dordrecht wanted to talk to his ex on that fatal Saturday, who had left him after a long relationship. In the end, however, he let bullets speak, which he fired at his ex and her mother. “That was due to an accumulation of emotions and sadness, he says. He never intended for it to come to this.”
He has expressed no remorse and confessed everything to get sympathy or a reduced sentence, says Raza. “It’s not about himself, it’s about her. He is very sad that her mother died and she was injured because of him.”
The judge decided on Monday that V. will be detained for at least another two weeks.
