Al Nasr Club’s candidate for the presidency of the Basketball Association in the new electoral cycle 2024-2028, Dharar Belhoul, stressed that adopting talents and refining them in a scientific manner is at the top of the main goals of his electoral program, noting that this is the only way to compensate for the small number of basketball players in the UAE clubs, and to find solutions in terms of the height factor for players, which is one of the most prominent weaknesses in the national basketball teams.
In press statements, Balhol said, “Creating a new generation of basketball talents founded on sound and scientific foundations cannot be achieved without effective partnerships that guarantee the provision of financial liquidity, which enables the federation to send these talents to camps and living periods outside the country, in addition to partnerships with international federations that have extensive experience in developing talents.”
He stressed that “restoring the UAE basketball to its natural position at the Arab and Asian levels requires clear strategies at the level of plans and ambitious work, which is what was focused on in my electoral program.”
He added: “The carefully developed mechanisms within my electoral programme enable us to overcome obstacles and transform these strategies into a tangible reality. This will be achieved with the necessary capabilities in terms of liquidity and partnerships, which ensures continued success, which ultimately leads to the return of the UAE basketball to its natural position on the Arab and continental levels.”
Balhol stressed the importance of cooperation with academies and schools to create a new generation of champions. He said: “The Basketball Federation must play an active role in refining these talents in the correct scientific manner, by discovering them early and developing their skills, and entering into purposeful partnerships with successful international federations, which will later serve the interests of clubs and national teams.”
He added: “Activating the partnership with sports academies and building a generation of school champions in basketball contribute to developing young sports talents and graduating outstanding athletes who are capable of reaching the world level in the near future.”
Balhol said: “We have great aspirations to provide the clubs with more young blood and contribute to compensating for the lack of human resources that the clubs suffer from, especially at the level of the age group teams, which represent a fundamental pillar in providing the first-class teams with distinguished elements.”
He explained: “Sports are an integral part of science and development, and early detection of sports talents using a scientific method guarantees success and excellence, especially since the ideal age to discover and refine talent, according to approved international standards, ranges between 7 and 11 years.”
He added: “There is a great relationship between the age at which the talent is discovered and the ability to continue giving, in terms of training hours, entering into an atmosphere of competition and development in all technical, personal and life aspects. Also, maintaining the talent’s path in terms of study and knowledge is in the interest of creating a complete sports champion, in terms of combining culture and sports.”
Balhol pointed out the importance of creating a strong school league, through close cooperation with schools, and that this cooperation would create a new generation of talents.
He concluded: “A strong school basketball league for both genders cannot be established without the federation working diligently to develop physical education teachers and hold training courses for teachers, in addition to periodic visits by technical experts in the basketball federation to schools.”
