Visakhapatnam: Union Minister of State for Science, Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh has said that he is in talks with American companies regarding the establishment of nuclear reactors in Andhra state.
The Minister’s reply to a question raised in Parliament in this regard:
6 nuclear reactors are planned to be constructed in Kowwada area of Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. For this, officials are negotiating with Westinghouse Electric Company (WEC) from America.
Currently, the pre-construction activities of the project like land acquisition, legal clearances and field surveys are going on for setting up the nuclear power plant. A total of 2,079 acres of land is required for the nuclear power plant project. So far, the acquisition of 2,061 acres of land has been completed. These lands have been transferred in the name of Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NBCIL). 8,000 people will be employed when the nuclear power plant project becomes operational. This was said by the minister.
