New Delhi: Prime Minister Modi proudly said that Tamil is the world’s oldest language in America. He also announced that a seat for Tamil will be set up in Houston University with the help of the Government of India.
Prime Minister Modi has been referring to ‘Tamil as the world’s oldest language’ for the first time at the ‘Kashi Tamil Sangam’ held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh last year. He used to say this only in his Indian shows, but he has started talking about it abroad as well.
In this way, Prime Minister Modi, who recently addressed thousands of people during his US tour, mentioned that Indians have the honor of being the world’s oldest language, Tamil.
In his speech in Washington, Prime Minister Modi said, “With the help of the Indian government, a seat for Tamil education is going to be set up at the University of Houston. This seat will further benefit the spread of Tamil culture and the world’s oldest language, Tamil. I have a request on behalf of all of you.
When the discussion about languages arises before you, say with all your heart that Tamil is the first language of the world human society. Tamil is the oldest language. It is our language,” he said excitedly, clapping his hands on his chest.

Through this, lakhs of Tamils living in Houston, Texas will benefit. Houston Tamils capitalized on part of their labor and tried to set up a Tamil seat.
After American Tamils joined them, donations were collected from all over the world. For this, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on behalf of the Tamil Development Department of the Tamil Nadu Government also donated Rs. 2.5 crores and cheered them up.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on behalf of the central government started the process of starting a Tamil seat in Houston. A memorandum of understanding was also signed with the University of Houston recently.
After that, an advertisement for the professorship was given and an interview was conducted. D.Vijayalakshmi, a Tamil professor from Kerala University, has been selected as a visiting professor.
With the addition of the Houston Tamil seat, ICCR’s Tamil seat abroad will increase to 3. Already, two Tamil seats have been set up on its behalf in Poland.
