Tata Group will become the first domestic company to manufacture iPhones in our country. Taiwanese firm Wistron Group has agreed to sell its month-old iPhone manufacturing plant in Bengaluru. Wistron’s board has approved the sale of Infocomm Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd to Tata Electronics for $125 million, around Rs 1035 crore. Wistron operates an iPhone assembly plant near Bangalore. After nearly a year of negotiations, Wistron Corporation’s factory is coming into the hands of the Tatas.
The iPhone 14 model is currently being assembled. More than 10 thousand employees are currently working in this plant. Wistron disclosed that after the signing of the agreements between the two companies, they will proceed to obtain the mandatory approvals from the government. The assembly of Apple iPhones is done domestically by Taiwanese manufacturers Pegatron Corporation and Foxconn Technology Group. With the latest deal, Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of Tata Sons, will join them. Union IT Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar congratulated the Tatas on the acquisition of Wistron’s operations. He said India is becoming a hub for smartphone manufacturing and exports with the PLI scheme of product-based incentives. To this extent, Social Media X tweeted.
