Another record is held by Team India who created a record as the team with the highest number of T20 wins in a calendar year. India are in a bid to set the record for the most wins by a team in a calendar year. They have won 35 matches so far this year. If they win another four matches, India will surpass the record held by Ricky Ponting’s Australia in 2003. In 2003, the Aussie team led by Ponting dominated world cricket. Aussies who played 47 matches that year won 38 matches. Australia played 35 ODIs that year and won 30 matches. Won 8 out of 12 Tests. 2017 Virat Kohli led Indian team came close to this record. India played 53 matches that year and won 37 matches. Team India has won 7 out of 11 Tests and 21 out of 29 ODIs. Played 13 T20s and won 9 matches. This year the Indian team has achieved 35 victories so far including all formats. If they get 4 more wins, they will break the record created by Aussies 19 years ago. There are four more months left in this year.. there are two more T20s, three ODIs and the T20 World Cup with South Africa. The Indian team will tour Bangladesh and New Zealand in November. With this, if the team performs as per the expectations, the Indian team can easily break the Aussie record. Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, India won 35 matches each in 2018 and 2019. Kohli, who stepped down from T20 captaincy after last year’s T20 World Cup, gave up the ODI reins on December 8 of the same year, and stepped down from Test captaincy on January 15, 2022. This year the Indian team has played 29 T20 matches so far (by the end of the first team against South Africa) and won 22 matches. 16 wins under the captaincy. India surpassed Pakistan’s record of winning the most T20 matches in a calendar year (20). Rohit broke Dhoni’s record (15) as the captain who gave India the most victories in T20Is in one year.
