Scientist Myilsami Annathurai’s NDRF has discovered technologies to make many useful products from bananas, including clothing, biscuits and pickles.
As banana cultivation is high in Karnataka and Maharashtra apart from Tamil Nadu, NDRF Chief Scientist Myilsami Annathurai and Director Army Scientist V. Dillibabu met Karnataka Chief Minister Eduyurappa yesterday to explain the project.
Then they said, ‘More water is wasted to make cotton fiber. Therefore, water saving is possible by separating the fiber from the banana stalk and using garment weaving as an alternative. The test runs of the machines have been successful.
You can also make pickles, biscuits and health drinks from the inside of the banana stalk. The NDRF Federation is involved in this research effort in collaboration with the National Banana Research Center (NRCP) in Trichy. Many value-added products such as bio-fertilizers and soundproofing boards can be made from waste using banana juice. The project will strengthen the livelihoods of banana farmers. ”
Eduyurappa inquired about the details of the project and said that the government would extend all cooperation to this project based on the livelihood of banana farmers. Other technical research conducted by the NDRF Federation was also discussed at the meeting. Secretary to the Chief Minister of Karnataka at this meeting. Selvakumar and advisor Lakshminarayana were also present.
It is noteworthy that the Government of Tamil Nadu has recently provided 7 acres of land to carry out this research initiative of the NDRF Federation.
